Visitors who have work purchased from Collier Art Corporation should find the following information of interest - with thanks to Maureen Leuallen:
Collier was an Art Auction house that did Auctions for fund raising. Much the same as Robert Sills Gallery and Patrician Art Gallery.
They operated in the 70's and early 80's. Most of their auctions were at military installations, churches, synagogues, etc.
Sills was the first in the industry (they were in LA and Chicago), then Collier opened. Sills sold to Patrician in 79 or 80.
I worked for Sills in Chicago. The auctioneers went from one company to another.

Important new information has been added at #31.
11-12-05: "In the 1970's I lived in California. I also collected
hippo art. I went to a show where Rabindra was displaying, and bout at least seven of his line prints that contained
hippos as well as other animals with them. I would love to let him know how much I have enjoyed them over the years as
well as my friends. They are on prominent display in our house. I would love to buy more. Thank you, Anthony". [if this is of interest to you, contact
cowboyartshow.com and your information will be forwarded to Anthony][June 5, 2007: Rabindra read your note, Anthony, and would like you to contact him]
Important - Read This:"I recently came across this website. I found the postings regarding the artist Rabindra. Some of the info posted here is correct and some is incorrect. I am in contact with Rabindra and asked for his permission to clear up the misinformation and it was granted, so here I am.
Rabindra is Scottish. He is NOT a deceased cancer victim as one person posted. He IS very much alive and well and still
working. He is still creating art, writing books, making music, and having fun. He is not on hard times. Instead he is
enjoying success as a multi-faceted artist.
| |
In all, he has written at least 8 books, recorded 5 albums and 3 cds. He no
longer resides in America. He is alive and well and happy and still creating. Hope this helps to clear up some of the
mystery and also enlightens those who thought he was dead or a recluse. Happily, he is neither. He requested I not give
out his addresses. Sincerely, Zen"

gallery and is looking to sell the business and/or inventory.
The majority of his inventory is the 3M Collection--10,000 pieces of a total of 49 limited
edition prints which can be seen on www.oldutica.com. The other three collections are Charles Russell, Cottonwood and Slana. He also has some sculptures and jewelry that would be part of the package if someone wanted to purchase the entire business/inventory.

two "p" or "g". Someone found this image on the web without any info as to how to contact the artist. I would like to include it in an
book about agriculture that I am writing and wanted to obtain permission from the artist. Any assistance you might be able to provide would be greatly

(29) 10-27-02 My Father was a cowboy, going from rodeo to rodeo making a living. This was back in th 50's.In and around Texas. There were many photographer back then.My father
can not recall their names but there was one name he thinks may remember, James Cathy. My father is in his 70's now and those days are forever in his mind and
heart as the best days and the hardest of his live. Sometime around the end of his cowboy days his parents home caught fire, all the photos that had been taken for all his future family to see as we sit and listen to his
story of those days were gone. We had his chap's, boots and his most prized belt buckle to look at.(By the way he has worn that same buckle for at least 50 years and
he still wears it today.) He was wearing his chap's, boots and buckle at the time of the fire. They are a part of my parents home, there rightful place over the fire place.I
am sending this e-mail in hopes someone on your end might know of this photographer James Cathy (not sure of correct spelling) or maybe even another cowboy
photographer around the 50's.I would be so happy if only you did.I would like to see if I can get some picture for christmas for my dad. His name is Don
Gilmore(Donald Rogers Gilmore). He lived in Texas and traveled all around the country. Thank You with all my heart. My Fathers Daughter, Karen
(30) 12-29-02 I purchased an original colored lithograph by Vanderbilt titled "Egyption Head" from the Robert Sills Gallery in Los Angeles in 1976 It is signed and
numbered 38/300. Can you tell me the value of this lithograph? Thanks, Sandy
(31) 01-25-03 I am looking for information about and artist I was told was an up and coming Japanese artist named Rabindra who signs all prints with
name RABINDRA and a red dot. I purchased one of these prints In Japan in 1970 on a military base from the Robert Sills Gallery out of Chicago.REG # R74-1240 If you can
just tell me more about the artist maybe I can find another print. Mine was destroyed in a fire. It has been in my home many years! I must find another one and only 650
where printed. I posted a picture of the print here.
Thanks, Elizabeth
This message in response to Rabrindra paintings is from Margie Wayne, and was received on 9.5.03) I have also been looking for Rabrindra prints. Several years ago I had the "Rouge Lion" and the "Blue Tiger", which I lost in a move.
Rabindra was not a Japaniese arist, but a Welsh born folk singer that came to the states around 1969. For 2 years he had 2 gallaries, one in Hollywood and the other in the Del Amo Fashion Mall in Torrance Calif.
He did over 500 different pieces to my knowledge. Some such as the Lazy Lion, had a edition of only 300 signed prints. I happened to be in the gallery in Torrance on the day that the 300 edition of the Lazy Lion was sold for $350.00. The first one had been sold in Florida for only $35.00, there fore when the edition was sold out, the value of the lower numbers went up.
The print that you had, looks like one that he pulled out of stock and had a limited edition printed, as he fell upon hard times.
All of his pieces are easily regonized by his dot as a siginature.
Please let me know if you receive any responses to your request. Thanks
Another response re: Rabindra prints I just bought a Rabindra print. I believe it is a pencil drawing of a Persian cat (22x30). Just black and white, with slightly green eyes. Of course,
the name at top left and the red dot near the bottom. There is no apparent edition number anywhere on it, but it's set in an ugly old frame that's
at least 30 years old, which would make it around 1970. There is another print of a lion I've seen at a local antique store. Looks like ink drawing,
smaller in size, same name with red dot in a cheap retro frame. I'd like to ascertain a ballpark value on my Persian, or any info on the title of this
print. This cowboy site is the only one with any info on this artist I've found, and I'm a good web navigator. - Ruben
6-15-04 I have 3 Rabindra drawings and want to find out more information on the man! I purchased these from him
personally as he took his work through the MCA Records Office Tower at University City in mid-1970's. I have an elephant
mother & baby, a lion, and a cat. All are in those horrible rough-wood frames. Where can I contact the artist or anyone
who knows where he can be found??? Thanks, Jaime
9-27-04 I have a message on #31 on Cowboy Arts Show web site about Rabindra. I would like to communicate with
anyone who has some prints to sell, or has more information on this artist. Thanks, Margie.
9-28-04 My son and I have several Radindra drawings, the black, green eyed cat is one of his (I don't remember the number) and I have the one of the white Persian (or Turkish Angora) cat with yellow eyes. Also many African animal drawings. I am not interested in selling them, but I would like to find out more about the artist. We bought them around 1991 and many of ours are in the old rough, black, wooden frames too.
I would appreciate any information on the artist. Thanks, Jean.
10-04-04 Thanks for all the info on Rabindra ! I own 4 prints of his. Three purchased in a Gallery run by Larry
Kinley ( a Cincinnati musician) in the 70's and one rescued from a trash heap just last week. The pictures I have are
Mama and babyelephant (large) a racoon holding the infamous red dot like a berry in his paws,(also large) two smaller
prints, a tabby cat looking up and a mama tiger with a cub in her mouth. I cant find any print numbers or anything but
his signature on any of them (but have not removed them from frames). Any ideas out there on value ?? Any offers out
there?? Would love to hear from you !! Thank you !! Kathie
1-31-05 I purchased a Rabindra lithograph, Lion Rouge (#272/1200) in 1987, at a cost
of $45. The location of purchase; Gallery of Smith and Tudor, located in
the Cincinnati Ohio area and is now closed. While picking it up the piece
after framing, the store owner showed me an article in an art exhibit
magazine about Rabindra. He died of cancer in early 1987 (approximately).
At that time, the article showed my piece (Lion Rouge) and gave an estimate
value of $1,000 - David.
9-30-05: I have a Rabindra " Tiger " I would like to sell. It is signed and numbered 82/250.
Can you give me any info? Thank you.
New: 5-28-06: Back in the 70's when my friends were having babies I always gave them a Rabindra birth announcement filled in with all the
particulars. Everyone always loved them and have them to this day. Another friend is having a baby and I looked high and
low for another but had no luck. I'd also love one of Rabindra's animals for myself. So I'm looking for two! Gave them to
everyone except for myself. Thanks, Marlene.

I am looking for information on an artist by the name of R. Longanesi. I have an original oil painting with Cert. of Authenticity from Collier Art Corp.

07-12-04 I recently acquired (in Florida) a very large, original oil painting (26"wd X 38"ht) which is framed very ornately
(32 x 44). It is a single ship at full sail on rough seas. When I bought the painting I was given some information about the
Artist on a very aged slip of paper.... Info I have is: Quote from unknown source " #30 Longanesi R. Aldo. Born in 1936 in
Turin (Italy)was orphaned when he was a boy. Graduated from the Artistic Lyceum of Turin, he was guided for some years by
Giuse Sissoldo, distinguished paintress grown up under the famous painter Casorati, and later painted for some art
galleries of Turin and Milan very fine seascapes and sailing vessels. Moved to Naples (Florida?) he has
addressed his artistic activity to subjects particularly appreciated among the American customers, and he still paints
landscapes, which too are outstanding, but he always prefers seascapes which he signs at times with the first name Redolfo.
He is partaking sometimes to paint shows winning favorable judgement of the critics and many sales of paintings to visitors".
I hope this information is helpful to someone. I do not know the Title of my painting, but thought that this info on the artist
was worth sharing. Walter

(124) 03-22-04 I have acquired a very large western oil painting signed by a C. Quany or
Quany. It is beautifully done, picturing a cowboy with beard and gun on a paint horse, with all his gear in great detail, behind him 2 pack horses,
and in the background what looks like an Indian on a pack horse. Lots of sage brush and detail, and it appears to be old. I bought it from a lady
who has had it for years, it is in good condition. I am wondering the value, is it a known artist, and what you can tell me about it. Thank you so much, Susanne.

Dali Self Portrait, I Belive, 13/200 Value Man in Top Hat with the Reper in back ground Tornato also GC Pour Added to
Signature. Need information on this work. Thanks, Laura
10-18-04 Re: your info request about the Dali print - A requst for information from an authority brought back an answer of: "I'd be
pretty careful about that one!". " GP" is probably someone else's initials, and "pour" means for, so there you have it
- the print was probably done for Dali, by a Dali artist - but not by Dali himself.

A few years ago at the Devil's Tower, Wyoming gift shop, my mother spotted a silhouette that she did not buy.
The art is a silhouette of two boys leaning on a fence, one with a rope in his hand, and a horse grazing in the
background. The caption was something along the lines of "If you rope him, I'll ride him." If anyone knows who
the artist is, or where to find it, please contact me! I want to get it for her birthday. Thank you kindly, Greg.

(162) 1-24-05 Cowboy w/horse in snowstorm: I am trying to find a
particular print I saw in a shop in Levenworth, WA this past summer. I do not know the artist nor the name
of the print. It was very similar to "STORMY" or "GATE COUNT". The print I'm looking for was the cowboy on horseback,
coming through the snowstorm carrying a Hereford calf, BUT he was facing forward - not a side view like in Stormy.
If you have any knowledge of what I'm looking for I'd really appreciate any leads you can give me. My husband was a
Hereford cattle rancher for 60 years. He has now been diagnosed with cancer and I would love to get this for him.
The one we saw in WA was very huge so we did not buy it. Thanks for your time & consideration to this request!! Thanks, Pat.
2-6-05 I have seen a print by Tim Cox which is similar to the one you described. Can you tell me
who did the "stormy" picture? Thank you, Betty

(172) 4-08-05 I have been searching extensively for early army aviation prints. My husband has a piece titled "Cradle of American
Airpower". This depicts the conflict between Gen. Blackjack Pershing and Pancho Villa in Columbus, New Mexico. I am
trying to find other artwork to compliment this like "Blackjack's Scouts" for example. I noted that
Richard Rollins is working on something similar to this. However I prefer prints over canvas artwork.
Is it possible to reproduce any of the artist's pieces into prints? And how much would the finished piece be
sold for? Thanks for your help. Jennifer

(36) 06-23-01 Recently, I was at the Coors Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo. At a booth there I fell in love with a painting of a young woman and a young cowboy and a new baby. The woman is lying on the bed as if she has just given birth, the man is sitting on the floor in full regalia holding the baby. Like a big dummy, I decided I couldn't afford the print and walked away without getting the artist's name or name of the print. If any of you are familiar with this painting, please let me know artist's name and location as I have decided
I have to thave this print.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Crystial.

5-11-05 (Steve sent some additional information): In doing some more research on this painting I have found out it was
his first painting on canvass, and the frame was hand made by him. It was entered in our county fair once and received a
blue ribbon and would have received the blue all-around but the judges said it was because the frame was crooked. Also
the subject of the painting was his great grandfather.
I was told that he had come to buy back the painting sometime in the eighties but could not find anyone who knew where
the painting was. The brother of the man who bought the painting originally told me he was offering $10,000.
Imagine that! (...also see #194 on the next page..)

I have other similar prints, all related to characters (Wallace Beery, Ward Bond, Harry Carey, Leo Carillo, Gabby Hayes, Buck Jones, Tom Mix, Will Rogers, James Stewart) in not-yet-identified 1950's-era Westerns.
